Canelo Alvarez teases a ‘done deal’ to return to action in Sept. under PBC banner
The mid-September mega-bout in Vegas still belongs to the sport’s biggest name.
In a cryptic post on social media, Ring super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez teased a “done deal” for a date during that month.
One thing is certain: Canelo will be partering with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions after having his last three fights under the DAZN/Matchroom banners.
The presence of Haymon in the deal probably means that Canelo is aiming to face current middleweight titlist Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 knockouts), who has parked his career on the curb for a little over two years just to wait for his chance to meet Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs) in the ring.
According to a social media post by ESPN’s Mike Coppinger, that’s exactly the fight we will be getting in mid-September. Presumably, the deal with Haymon calls for two more fights in the already usual early-May and mid-September big fight dates in 2024.
This is a developing story.
