In a fight for the connoisseurs rather than the casuals, Sheffield’s welterweight titleholder Kell Brook took his time and patiently dissected the challenge of fellow Briton Frankie Gavin on Saturday at London’s O2 Arena, before suddenly trading subtlety for savagery in round six and stopping the southpaw against the ropes. Brook retained his IBF belt and extended his unbeaten run to 35 fights.
