New Jersey-based super middleweight Jason Escalera will face J’Leon Love in a 10-round bout, possibly on the Adrien Broner vs. Shawn Porter card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on June 20 – or the day after that, per their contract, according to Escalera’s manager/trainer, Joe Botti.

Botti says they’ve signed their contract to face the 27-year-old Mayweather Promotions boxer but the actual date of the fight remains open.

“I’ve never seen that written in a contract before,” says Botti. “Maybe they have two shows back-to-back.”

The Broner vs. Porter non-title fight will headline a Premier Boxing Chapions show on NBC; a PBC spokesperson has not yet been reached for comment.

Love (19-1, 10 knockouts) of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, confirmed to RingTV that Escalera would be his next opponent and also said that he had been told he’ll fight on the Broner-Porter card. The 27-year-old is coming off an eight-round decision victory over Scott Sigmon in March, which buffered his only career defeat, to Rogelio Medina last August.

Escalera (15-3-1, 12 KOs) of Union City, New Jersey, lost a 10-round decision to Love’s stablemate, Badou Jack, in his most recent fight on the same card as Love-Medina. That made the 30-year-old Escalera 2-3 in his last five fights, having lost to Edwin Rodriguez on HBO and a fighter named Lekan Byfield, who entered with a 4-5-2 record.

“Love is going to try to box and move. No surprise there. Jason just has to cut off the ring and force him to mix it up,” says Botti.

“We’ve come within a fight or two of a title twice before, against Badou Jack and Edwin Rodriguez. I think [Escalera] knows that he may not get another chance on the world stage if he doesn’t pull this one out. Like all fighters Jay has fought through injuries but we don’t use that as excuses. We need this win to get closer to the prize.”
