The three young boxers grew up in the greater Los Angeles area as fans of a fellow Mexican-American from the region, Oscar De La Hoya. Now all three are fighting for the former champion-turned-promoter.

Luis Ramos, Carlos Molina and Ronny Rios, all undefeated prospects who will fight on the July 30 “Fight Night Club” card at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, signed contracts Tuesday with Golden Boy Promotions.

They couldn’t be more pleased.

“It means a lot to me personally,” said Rios, a junior featherweight from Santa Ana. “Growing up, I loved watching Oscar fight. And from a business standpoint, he’s a big promoter. This will open doors for me, give me opportunities.

“It’s a great feeling.”

Golden Boy apparently has the same feeling.

Eric Gomez, vice president and matchmaker, said the company’s goal is to build an attraction who crosses over ethnic lines, someone who has boxing ability, is bilingual and carries himself with class.

All three of the prospects seem to fit that mold. They all were accomplished amateurs and have a combined record of 23-0 (11 knockouts) in their young pro careers. And each of them of them is respectful and dresses well.

“We know how successful a Mexican-American fighter can be,” Gomez said. “Obviously, Oscar is a prime example. ÔǪ We’re trying to find the next cross-over star, a guy who speaks Spanish, who speaks English, is clean cut and can fight.

“These guys have the amateur pedigree. Only time will tell how good they’ll be in the future. We’ll do our best to get that a world title shot. Then it’ll be up to them to perform.”

De La Hoya is optimistic.

“I followed Luis, Carlos and Ronny as they went through the amateur ranks, immediately recognized their talent and watched how they have gotten better and better with each fight,” De La Hoya said in a press release. “I see a great future in this game for all three of them, both in and out of the ring. While Los Angeles area fans already know this, the rest of the world is going to find out about them very soon.”

Ramos (11-0, 6 KOs) knocked out veteran Baudel Cardenas in the fifth round on the first “Fight Night Club” card, impressing everyone with his polished skills.

The product of Santa Ana, in Orange County, was thrilled moments before he signed his contract with Golden Boy.

“This is a dream come true, to be honest,” said Ramos, who faces Colombian-born Andres Ledesma (15-14-1, 10 KOs) of Miami in a scheduled six-round lightweight bout on July 30. “I never dreamed that a guy I grew up watching in the ring, I would sign with him.

“This is a big opportunity for me. I want to take advantage of it to help my parents better their lives.”

Molina (7-0, 3 KOs) also will fight on the next “Fight Night Club” card but his opponent has yet to be determined.

“This means a lot to me,” he said, referring to his new contract. “Golden Boy is the top promoter. I’m very excited.”
