In the co-main event to Chantelle Cameron-Katie Taylor II on Saturday night in Dublin, Ireland, local lightweight Gary Cully rebounded from his loss to Jose Felix in May with a 10-round split-decision win over Englishman Reece Mould.

The southpaw Cully augmented his seven-inch height advantage with a constantly moving right hand that kept Mould cautious on the outside, mixing in sporadic one-twos and hooks to the body. Initially Mould preferred to deal with Cully’s attacks by slipping backward, but increasingly he opted to cover up and remain in range to chop at Cully’s midsection.

Cully did well to stay busy, keep Mould off-balance and time the Brit’s rushes, cuffing him on the way in, but Mould stepped up the pressure around the seventh round and started to land more effective punches. He succeeded with a few overhand shots and finished with a nice straight right in the final round, but Cully also capped his performance with an eye-catching left uppercut in the pocket.

Scores were 97-93 and 96-93 for Cully (17-1, 10 KOs), while the third judge scored it 97-93 for Mould (18-3, 6 KOs).

Cully’s victory followed Irish welterweight Paddy Donnovan’s fourth-round TKO victory over Danny Ball, who went down twice in the terminal round before his corner had seen enough. Also, rising featherweight Skye Nicolson of Australia stayed unbeaten with a 10th-round stoppage of Lucy Wildheart.
