Brandon Benitez hopes to continue riding the momentum of winning and then close out 2023 in grand style.

Benitez will face Rigoberto Hermosillo on December 9, CBN Promotions announced. The 10-round bout will take place at the Infinite Reality (formerly known as the Thunder) Studios in Long Beach, California.

Benitez (20-2, 8 knockouts), a fringe featherweight contender, resides in Queretaro, Mexico and has fought on previous Thompson Boxing cards over the last couple of years. On a ShoBox card that took place on a Thompson Boxing in May 2019, Benitez lost by knockout to Saul Sanchez in an action fight up to the stoppage.

Since the loss to Sanchez, Benitez has reeled off six consecutive victories. In his last bout on April 29, Benitez stopped Federico Pedraza in the seventh round.

In his previous fight on October 7 of last year, and in his most significant win as a pro, Benitez defeated Can Xu by split-decision in what turned out to be an action and back-and-forth fight.

Hermosillo (14-4-1, 9 KOs), who is originally from the boxing hotbed of Guadalajara, Mexico and now resides in Los Angeles, defeated once-beaten prospect Alexis De Luna by majority decision. In his previous fight on April 23, Hermosillo defeated Blas Ezequiel Caro by unanimous decision.

The 31-year-old southpaw has won his last three fights after losing his previous four, including a split-decision loss to Mark Magsayo in September 2020 and a split-decision loss to Manny Robles III in May 2019. Both Magsayo and Robles entered the Hermosillo fight as unbeaten fighters.

In a compelling fight, fringe junior lightweight contender George Acosta of nearby Whittier will square off against Richard Medina in an eight-round bout.

Acosta (16-1, 3 KOs) last fought on July 21, knocking out gatekeeper Edy Valencia in the fifth round. The 27-year-old has not lost since a decision defeat to Ruben Torres in May 2019 in his eighth fight as a pro.

Medina (15-1, 8 KOs), who resides in San Antonio, Texas, has won his last two fights since a one-sided defeat to Raymond Ford on June 25 of last year.

Adelaida Ruiz (14-0-1, 8 KOs) of Los Angeles, who holds the WBC interim world title at 115 pounds, will fight an opponent to be determined.

Adrian Corona (9-1-2, 2 KOs) of Rialto, California will face Mexico’s Francisco Duque (2-3, 1 KO) in a six-round bout. Corona is the son of California referee Ray Corona.

Televised fights will air live on FOX Deportes (10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT) and the entire CBN Promotions card will stream live on www.FightStars.Network (9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT).

The December 9 card will mark the third installment of CBN Promotions’ ‘New Blood’ series. Alex Camponovo, who was the Matchmaker and General Manager of Thompson Boxing Promotions, has put forth solid fight cards thus far and has been impressed with how well fight fans have gravitated to the new boxing series.

“We want to close out the year with a fantastic card and give the fans a night to remember,” said Camponovo. “We are building something special in Long Beach and we want to continue the momentum we’ve gained in our prior two shows. I’d like to encourage everyone to come out and enjoy a great night of boxing.”
