The Thammanoon Niyomtrong- Erick Rosa saga seems to have come to an end with Team Rosa winning today’s purse bid held by the WBA.

As reported by Jake Donovan of BoxingScene, Rosas promoter, Shaun boxing won the bid to promote the bout between the two champions posting $80.000  along with possible fight dates being October 7 in Las Vegas, October 14 Minneapolis or October 19 in Haiti.

The WBA had a strict ruling with the two champions for the fight to take place no later than October 19 and in a neutral country. The fight went to a purse bid last year in December where Petchyindee Boxing Promotions out-bid Shaun Boxing offering $140.000 for the fight to take place in Thailand.

The drama began when Rosa arrived a week before his fight on March 1 of last for the fight in Nakhon Sawan, Thailand but was detained by Thai Immigration. They accused Rosa of entering Thailand with an expired passport. Rosa returned home amidst rumours the fight would take place on the undercard of Rolando Romero vs Ismael Barroso. The fight was then scheduled to take place on July 16 but both teams failed to reach an agreement.

Both Rosa and Niyomtrong have been inactive with Rosa last getting a split decision win over Filipino veteran Victorio Saludar in 2021. Rosa has been waiting for his shot at the title against Niyomtrong but the two teams could not come to an agreement. Niyomtrong’s last fight was against fellow Thai WBC minimum weight Chayaphon Moonsri last year in August in which the champion won by UD in Chonburi, Thailand.

Apparently, the management of Niyomtrong did not take part in Friday’s purse bid even though Niyomtrong’s manager, Mr Piyarat Vachirarattanawong of Petchyindee promotion expressed his willingness to bring the fight to South East Asia and said he would join the purse bid.
