After suffering a knockout defeat in his previous fight, David Carmona sought out a new trainer, approached the sport with renewed vigor and produced the results.

Now campaigning at bantamweight, Carmona knocked out Jesus Iribe in the fourth round Friday night at the Auditorio Blackberry in Mexico City.

In July, Carmona (21-5-5, 9 knockouts) was knocked out in two rounds by Daniel Lozano. Subsequently, the Mexico City native acquired the services of former featherweight contender Jorge Lacierva who took over as head coach.

Prior to the Lozano fight, Carmona had dropped decisions to Naoya Inoue (in a world title bout) and Carlos Cuadras.

After an even opening round, Carmona began walking down Iribe, a former three-time world title challenger. The aggression worked wonder as an overhand right stunned Iribe in Round 2 and a follow-up right send him to the canvas.

Iribe (20-11-5, 10 KOs) beat the count but was dropped again by a barrage of punches near the end of the round. The Culiacan fighter bravely got to his feet and made it out of the session.

However, another overhand right hurt Iribe in Round 4. This time, Carmona opened up with more authority, landing numerous hooks and crosses until Iribe dropped to his knees. Referee Gelasio Perez counted Iribe out at 1:09.

“I think this victory served a purpose that I learned my lesson,” said Carmona after the fight. “I want a third fight against Daniel Lozano. I gave him a rematch without thinking about it. I want that third fight against him.”

Carmona defeated Lozano in March 2015 by 10-round unanimous decision and seeks a decider.

In a clash of Mexico City featherweights, Ariel Bolanos won a six-round unanimous decision over Irvin Marin (8-4, 3 KOs).

Bolanos utilized his height and reach advantage, effectively outboxing Marin. Scores were 59-55, 58-56, and 58-57 for Bolanos, who improves to (5-1, 2 KOs).

Both fights aired on Telemundo.
