Ortiz dominates Campbell
Victor Ortiz passed the test.
The junior welterweight prospect, less than a year removed from his knockout loss to Marcos Maidana, easily outpointed veteran Nate Campbell on the Amir Khan-Paulie Malignaggi undercard Saturday to prove he belongs among the better 140-pounders.
Ortiz (27-2-1, 21 knockouts) dominated his aging opponent with far superior skills, speed and athleticism. He scored consistently with hard, fast combinations and quick feet that kept him out of harm’s way.
Campbell (33-6-1, 25 KOs) looked all of his 38 years, failing to work hard enough to give himself a chance.
The victory was important for Ortiz, who was called a quitter by some after he gave up against Maidana. He has now won three straight fights since that setback, this being the most significant because of Campbell’s reputation.
