Sounds like Floyd Mayweather Jr. has a case of big-fight envy.

The retired welterweight claims he could sink Saul (Canelo) Alvarez’s May 7 middleweight title fight with Amir Khan at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with just two phone calls: One to Angel Garcia, father of welterweight titleholder Danny Garcia. And the other to MGM Resorts, which operates T-Mobile together with the Anschultz Entertainment Group.

In Mayweather’s hyper-competitive mind, he believes he could coax MGM Grand officials to cancel Alvarez-Khan in favor of a bout between himself and Danny Garcia.

The boast was apparently triggered by comments made by Khan that his fight with Alvarez will rival Mayweather’s super fight with Manny Pacquiao last May, which was the most lucrative bout of all time.

Of course, Mayweather (49-0, 26 knockouts) has never said he’s open to fighting again. And with no fight scheduled for May and Cinco de Mayo weekend, Mayweather is surely feeling melancholy about watching the sport move on without him.

“You know, I can easily put a halt on that fight if I chose to call Mr. Garcia, [Danny] Garcia’s dad, if I chose to call him and say, ‘You know what, sir, you’re a hell of a trainer,” Mayweather told the website, Fighthype.com in a story that was posted on Monday. “‘You’re son’s a hell of a fighter, he’s an undefeated champion, I’m an undefeated champion, and I think it would be great for me and your son both to make a lot of money. And like I said before, you’re very outspoken, my dad is very outspoken; it would be good for me to come back for number 50 and fight the undefeated Danny Garcia, you know, at the MGM Grand.’ You know, since Danny Garcia is undefeated and he’s very explosive, he’s a very good fighter, and he really represents Puerto Rico the same way that Trinidad dad. Even though he’s from Philadelphia, he represents the red, white, and blue for Puerto Rico. I’ll go over to the MGM Grand and say, ‘You know what? We need a venue also,’ and we’ll see.”

Mayweather cited his win over Alvarez and Garcia’s victory against Khan as evidence there would be more intrigue for his fight than Canelo-Khan.

“Because if I’m not mistaken, I fought Canelo, right, and then Danny Garcia fought Amir Khan, and we’re both undefeated, so who do you want to see?” Mayweather said. “Do you want to see them or do you want to see us? I’m just saying, I’m just putting it out there. Those are the type of things that I can do.”
