RING pound-for-pound ruler Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez will face McWilliams Arroyo to open the HBO telecast between Gennady Golovkin and Dominic Wade on April 23 at the Forum in Inglewood, California, it was announced on Friday.

It will be Gonzalez’s third straight time riding shotgun with Golovkin in an HBO telecast. If he is successful on April 23, K2 Promotions managing director Tom Loeffler said the preference is for Gonzalez to face Juan Francisco Estrada in an HBO main event at the Forum in his next fight.

While Gonzalez, the WBC flyweight titleholder, out-pointed Estrada in 2012, Estrada (33-2, 24 knockouts) has rebuilt his career by winning a pair of flyweight titles. He is currently the No. 1-ranked flyweight based on THE RING’S rankings, trailing only Gonzalez (44-0, 38 KOs).

“A rematch with Estrada would be a tremendous fight,” Loeffler told RingTV.com. “There’s so much interest in that rematch that if he does well in April I can see that in his first main event on HBO.”

Puerto Rico’s Arroyo is 16-2 with 14 knockouts. He lost a split decision to IBF flyweight titleholder Amnat Ruenroeng in 2014 in his only time challenging for a world title. Arroyo is the twin brother of IBF junior bantamweight titleholder McJoe Arroyo.

“I am very happy with this opportunity to fight for the world title again,” Arroyo said in a press release. “We were confident that this fight would come and now is the time to continue training to bring this title to Puerto Rico. We know that Roman Gonzalez is a great fighter, one of the best today, and we will get in the best condition to win that belt.”
