Mayweather Promotions’ application for a promoters license in Nevada was unanimously approved by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Wednesday.

Floyd Mayweather Jr., who owns the company, and CEO Leonard Ellerbe were praised by commission Chairman Skip Avansino for their presentation and their loyalty to Nevada. Mayweather will be fighting in the state for the 23^rd time when he faces Marcos Maidana on Sept. 13 at the MGM Grand.

Mayweather defeated Maidana in May at the MGM. For their rematch, Mayweather chose that venue over Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, despite what Barclays CEO Brett Yormark characterized as the “most unprecedented offer ever made outside of Las Vegas.”

Nevada commissioner Bill Brady asked Ellerbe and Mayweather whether they were aware that they could not both manage and promote fighters. They said they were. Mayweather also was asked about the out-of-court resolution of Manny Pacquiao’s defamation lawsuit against him in Las Vegas. Mayweather said it was settled in September 2012.

Mayweather, who recently received a license to promote in New York, told the commission that he planned “to do great things” as a promoter.

Mayweather-Maidana II is being co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, which has promoted Mayweather’s fights since 2007.

The commission also selected the referees and officials for the August 2 doubleheader at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas between welterweights Brandon Rios and Diego Chaves and junior welterweights Jessie Vargas and Anton Novikov.

Chosen for Rios-Chavez are referee Vic Drakulich and judges Robert Hoyle, Patricia Morse Jarman and Jerry Roth and for Vargas-Novikov are referee Kenny Bayless and judges Burt Clements, Dave Moretti and Glenn Trowbridge.

IVAN MORALES TAKES ON SERGIO FRIAS, BROTHER ERIK MORALES WILL BE RINGSIDE

Mexican bantamweight Ivan Morales (25-0, 14 knockouts), 22-year-old brother of four-division titlist Erik Morales, will face Sergio Frias (15-3-2, 8 KOs) on Friday in the co-main event at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif., on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes’ “Golden Boy Live!”, Golden Boy announced on Wednesday.

Erik Morales will be ringside for the fight, whose main event features Frankie Gomez in a junior welterweight bout against Vernon Paris with an opening bout between middleweights Terrell Gausha and Ronnie Warrior Jr.

JERRY ODOM MEETS VILIER QUINONEZ IN CLASH OF UNBEATENS ON FRIDAY

Super middleweights Jerry Odom (11-0, 10 KOs), who has stopped eight opponents in the first round, and Vilier Quinonez (8-0, 5 KO’s) will square off at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, N.Y., on Friday, GH3 Promotions and Greg Cohen Promotions announced on Wednesday.
