Heavyweight standout Mike Perez and his promotional company, K2 Promotions, issued a statement on Monday evening about the condition of Magomed Abdusalamov, who was placed in a medically induced coma after losing a spirited 10-round decision to Perez on Saturday.

The press release stated that Perez was deeply saddened to hear of the injuries suffered by Abdusalamov, who is being treated at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City, during their punishing fight at Madison Square Garden.

“‘Mago’ is in my thoughts and prayers and I hope he recovers quickly,” said Perez. “He fought like a true warrior, I’m happy to be victorious but my main concern is for his health.”

Added Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, “Our entire team was very saddened to hear of the injuries that Magomed sustained during his bout on Saturday night. He is in our thoughts and prayers and we thank his team for keeping us updated on his condition.”

Stated Patrick Thomas of Team Thomas Boxing (which manages Perez), “Everyone at Team Thomas wishes a full and speedy recovery to Magomed.”
