The #MayPac grind got to him, Freddie Roach admitted, and in fact he’s still dealing with the aftermath.

“Dedham” Freddie was in NYC on Tuesday to take part in the Miguel Cotto-Daniel Geale press conference, put together by Roc Nation, ahead of the Saturday night scraps at Barclays Center.

He still hasn’t watch the bout on tape, he admitted, though it is on his sometime to-do list. “I’ve been tired lately, my effin backs been killing me, I have to have surgery on it if I have time,” he said. A couple pinched nerves mean he could use two surgeries, the trainer continued, but he is so busy, it’s hard to find the time to get the surgery, which will then nececessitate down time, to heal.

He took just a single day off, after #MayPac, and he’s still making up ground.

Part of the grind, I offered, was that he had to keep up appearances. Guys like me were calling, checking in, asking for updates feverishly, and you had to make it seem like all was swell in Pacland, no?

Well, it wasn’t so bad, Roach told me. All fighters basically go into a fight injured, and the shoulder “was getting better and better.” We did the best we could with the injury, he re-iterated.

And really, how bad was Manny? It was a small tear, not that bad, the trainer said. But the commission told them a half hour before the fight that they couldn’t get a pain-killing shot.

The tutor still believes, he swears, that with two good arms Manny KOs Floyd. A re-tear in the fourth, though, really messed with Manny. That Roach, he is some kind of loyal, isn’t he? Me, I don’t see Manny with two good wings handling Floyd but Roach sees him through rosy-colored glasses, bless his soul…
