Tickets to the May 9 Canelo Alvarez-James Kirkland fight, taking place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, go on sale Tuesday, March 3, Golden Boy Promotions announced on Wednesday. Prices for the scheduled 12-round junior middleweight fight start at $10.

The hard-punching junior middleweight standouts will also host back-to-back public press conferences in Houston and San Antonio on March 3. The Houston press conference, hosted at Minute Maid Park, opens gates to the public at 11:00 a.m. CT. The presser begins at noon. Gates to the San Antonio presser, held at Bexar County Courthouse, open at 4:00 p.m. CT. The presser begins at 5:00 p.m.

Alvarez-Kirkland, which is promoted in association with Canelo Promotions, SMS Promotions and Leija*Battah Promotions, will be televised live on HBO’s World Championship Boxing, beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Minute Maid Park, home to the Houston Astros, can hold a little more than 40,000 for baseball games. At least 40,000 boxing fans are expected to be present for Alvarez-Kirkland due to the action styles of the aggressive boxer-punchers.

“It will be exciting, explosive and should not be missed,” Alvarez stated in the Golden Boy Promotions press release. “Kirkland is a dangerous fighter who is coming prepared for a tough night and this fight, without a doubt, will be one to remember. I promise my fans I will be victorious and invite everyone to come out and join us at Minute Maid Park on May 9. They will not be disappointed.”

Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 knockouts), a 24-year-old Mexican star from Guadalajara, scored a split decision over top contender Erislandy Lara in his most recent bout last July. Kirkland (32-1, 28 KOs), a 31-year-old southpaw from Austin, Texas, broke down then-unbeaten prospect Glen Tapia to a brutal sixth round stoppage in his last bout in December 2013.

“This is the fight I’ve been waiting for,” said Kirkland. “Canelo is the opponent I get asked about more than any other fighter. I’m ready to show my skills to the world and shut down the people who doubt me. Come fight night you will see a great fight between two warriors and I know at the end of the night my hand will be raised in victory.”

Tickets priced at $350, $150, $100, $50, $25 and $10, plus applicable fees and service charges, will go on sale at 10:00 a.m. CT on March 3. They are available for purchase at the Minute Maid Park Box Office (Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) all Ticketmasker outlets, by calling Ticketmaster at (800) 736-1420, online at www.ticketmaster.com, by calling (210) 979-3302 or emailing [email protected]. There is a 19 ticket limit per household.
