Gomez off Aug. 26 Fight Night Club
Junior welterweight prospect Frankie Gomez is off the August 26 Fight Night Club due to an illness.
Gomez (5-0, 5 knockouts), a former amateur star from East Los Angeles, was in the scheduled co-main event against Raul Tovar.
Gomez will be replaced by another amateur star, 2008 U.S. Olympian Gary Russell Jr., of Capitol Heights, Md. Russell (11-0, 8 KOs) is scheduled to face tough Guadalupe DeLeon (8-11, 4 KOs), of Mission, Texas, in the six-round featherweight co-main event bout.
One of Russell's amateur rivals, Ronny Rios (11-0, 5 KOs), is in the main event, a six-round junior lightweight bout with Leivi Brea (17-8-3, 9 KOs).
Gomez is still scheduled to appear on the undercard of the Shane Mosley-Sergio Mora fight on September 18.
