On the heels of the WBC assigning Feb. 11 for Gary Russell Jr. to defend his featherweight title against Oscar Escandon, Showtime boxing chief Stephen Espinoza said the Russell-Escandon bout would likely serve as the Showtime co-feature to Adrien Broner’s welterweight fight with Adrian Granados, also set for Feb. 11.

“It’s a great style match-up,” Espinoza told RingTV.com on Wednesday of Russell-Escandon. “There’s a good chance it could be paired with the Broner fight on Feb. 11, which is still looking for a site.” Espinoza listed Washington, DC and Cincinnati, where Broner is from, as possible locales for the card.

Russell (27-1, 16 knockouts) hasn’t fought since he stopped Patrick Hyland in two rounds on April 16. It’s his only fight this year after he also fought just once in 2015, stopping Jhonny Gonzalez in the fourth round. Colombia’s Escandon (25-2, 17 KOs) has also fought just once in 2015 and 2016. He knocked out Robinson Castellanos in the seventh round in March and lost a split decision to Moises Flores in April of 2015.
