Deontay Wilder talked tough on a podcast appearance about his Saturday clash against last-chance vet Chris Arreola and also potential future foes Alexander Povetkin and RING heavyweight champion Tyson Fury as he counts down to fight night.
The Alabama Slamma stayed on a theme during his Monday hit on the podcast “TalkBOX,” that being a desire to put a vicious beating on foes, one which will likely land them in a hospital.
The 36-0 (35 knockouts) hitter apologized for those with kids but he said this is the hurt business pugilists have chosen, so anyone fighting him must have their eyes open to the dire possibilities.
Wilder tops a Saturday card on FOX and said he chose Arreola to mix with after his May date with Alexander Povetkin imploded (since the Russian tested PED positive) because, in shape or not, physique fab or flabby, “Arreola comes to fight, to put on a show.”
The 30-year-old holder of the WBC crown said he aims to give Arreola “the worst beating of his life and then knock him out, welcome him to Alabama, all in the same event. That’s what I do nowadays…”
As for Povetkin, Wilder said legal issues stemming from the canceled bout have to play out but, “I would love to still fight him. What he did added fuel to the fire and I want to punish him myself.”
Same for Brit-based Traveler Tyson Fury, set to rematch Wladimir Klitschko in October. “When me and Tyson fight, it’s definitely going to be a great fight,” Wilder said, “and I’m definitely going to come to punish him and hurt him really bad and I think a lot of people want to see me hurt him anyways.”
My take: Wilder is getting it, what the masses want. Skills pay bills but arse kickings pay off better. KOs are king. This will be bad news for Arreola (age 35; 1-1-1-1 in his last four) who needs to be better than ever, with an extra assist from a higher power, to get a W on this PBC affair.
“I’m going to give him the worst beating of his life and then knock him out, welcome him to Brooklyn, all in the same event. That’s what I do nowadays,” said Michael Woods‘ older daughter Bella (who trains with Heather Hardy, these days, at Gleason’s Gym), after a mild scolding from dear old Dad. You’re totally screwed, Pops.
