Irish amateur star Jason Quigley, who won a gold medal at the 2013 European Championships in the middleweight division, has signed a promotional deal with Golden Boy Promotions, the Los Angeles-based company announced on Tuesday.

Quigley, who also won a silver medal at the 2013 AIBA World Amateur Championships, has yet to turn pro.

“I'm absolutely delighted to have signed with Golden Boy Promotions,” Quigley, a 22-year-old native of Stranorlar, stated in a press release. “I can't wait to have my first pro fight. This is an amazing opportunity and I will give it my all.”

Hailing from Balleybofey in County Donegal, Ireland, Quigley was considered a strong candidate to medal in the 2016 Olympics Games, but he has decided to chase his pro dreams. Along with his European Championships title and the World Championships silver medal, Quigley won gold medals in the 2009 European Youth tournament and the 2012 European U23 (under 23) tournament.

“Jason Quigley is part of the next generation of European boxers who are about to make their mark on the international stage, and we believe he has the skill and determination to go very far in the future,” Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions, stated in the press release. “It also doesn't hurt that he has the great nation of Ireland behind him, and I know they will support him wherever he goes.”
