Ultra-talented featherweight prospect Gary Russell Jr. remained undefeated with an easy eight-round unanimous decision over hard-punching fringe contender Leonilo Miranda on the undercard of the Jan Zaveck-Andre Berto fight in Biloxi, Miss., on Saturday

Russell (18-0, 10 knockouts), who won by scores of 80-72, 80-72, 79-72, was simply too fast, skilled and technically sound for Miranda (32-4, 30 KOs), a 28-year-old native of Sonora, Mexico.

It was as though Miranda were in slow motion whenever he lobbed his telegraphed punches at the 23-year-old southpaw from Capitol Heights, Md.

Fans want to see Russell in with an opponent who doesn't look like he's in slow motion in comparison to the 2008 U.S. Olympian. HBO commentator Max Kellerman asked him when that might be.

"Hopefully, in the next couple of months,"  Russell said. "I most definitely feel I'm ready (for the elite featherweights)."
