AUSTRALIA, Redfern, New South Wales – The scene at Daniel Geale’s final public workout before departing to the United States for his July 26 challenge to WBA middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin was an intimate one.

The 33-year-old former IBF and WBA beltholder did some light workouts before sparring two rounds with super middleweight prospect Jake Carr.

Geale (30-2, 16 knockouts) looked sharp. The veteran’s speed and combination punching was on display. He played the matador while sparring with Carr, making the larger and younger boxer pay when he got over aggressive.

After the brief sparring session, Geale took questions from the media. As always, the affable veteran exuded confidence without trash talk or belittling his opponent.

The media day wrapped up with a light barbecue and autograph session. Geale was great with the crowd, making time for every fan. There was a family atmosphere to the event. Geale’s wife and children were there along with friends and diehard fans. Even NSW Rugby captain Paul Gallen stopped by to wish Geale good luck. Last on the docket was a photo shoot and a few final interviews, the video below was among them.
