Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler hit NYC, making the rounds at the Friday night Boxing Writers Association of America awards dinner, and then the Saturday night fight card at Barclays Center.
Before they kicked off at the Brooklyn arena, he made sure to check out a feed of a fight from England, seeing how Chris Eubank Jr looked.
“Very impressive,” he reported. “Knockout in round four.”
He cared more than a bit because, he said, he’s confident he will finish a deal that will see Golovkin fight Eubank in England, in August or September.
The 26-year-old Eubank went to 23-1 by downing now 17-1 Tom Doran.
“I will know Monday, I’m supposed to talk to Eubank promoter Eddie Hearn on Monday,” Loeffler said. “He seemed very confident it gets done, in talking to Eubank, everything he’s saying. Since BJ Saunders is proving he doesn’t want to fight, Eubank stepping up would be a huge fight over there.”
