Like all fighters, Shane Mosley puts his life on the line in the ring. Apparently, he can also do that while saving the life of a baby.
Mosley played the role of a Good Samaritan early Sunday afternoon, saving the life of a baby on one of Southern California’s busiest freeways.
Mosley and his girlfriend were traveling on the 405 Freeway in the Los Angeles area when he came upon a four-car accident. The three-division titleholder exited his vehicle and approached a car, where he saw a baby crying and bleeding from wounds to the face.
The father, who was the driver of the car, was disoriented from the impact of the crash and was unable to unlock the vehicle from the inside.
“You don’t know if the car is going to catch fire, what’s going to happen, then seeing there’s a baby in there,” Mosley said in an interview that aired on Southern California’s CBS2 and KCAL9 on Sunday night.
“The baby was crying and bleeding,” Mosley told reporter Brittney Hopper. “His neck was bruised.”
Mosley and his girlfriend proceeded to call 911. He was eventually able to open the door, carried the baby out of the car and held him until paramedics arrived.
Paramedics took the baby to a nearby hospital, with Mosley in tow as he retrieved a baby bag that was left behind. The passenger, a woman who is seven months pregnant, was also transported to the hospital.
According to Mosley, the father was appreciative of Mosley’s quick actions, along with those of Mosley’s girlfriend.
“(The father) was crying and saying, ‘You guys are like an angel,’ and, ‘Thank you for helping me.'”
Afterwards, Mosley sent out a series of tweets, describing what happened from start to finish.
Mosley (49-9-1, 41 knockouts) is training for his upcoming bout, May 28, against David Avanesyan (21-1-1, 11 KOs) at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
Mosley reportedly gave tickets to the family to attend the fight.
