Eddie Gomez to face John Karl Sosa on May 20

Welterweights Eddie Gomez and John Karl Sosa will square off on May 20, Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Robert Diaz told

The 10-round bout will take place at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.

The bout will air live on Estrella TV, beginning at 10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT. will air the entire Golden Boy Promotions card, beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET/ 5:30 p.m. PT.

Gomez (18-1, 11 knockouts) has won back-to-back bouts since his only loss as a pro at the hands of Francisco Santana in June of 2014. In his most recent bout, nearly one year ago, the Bronx, NY resident stopped Jonathan Batista after the end of the fifth round.

Gomez also has wins over Daquan Arnett and Steve Upsher Chambers.

Sosa (13-1, 6 KOs) will attempt to rebound from a stoppage loss in his last fight at the hands of Alan Sanchez on Nov. 20. Sanchez was a significant step-up in opposition for Sosa, who had faced four fighters with winning records two fights prior.

In the opening bout of the “Boxeo Estelar” broadcast, junior welterweight Fidel Maldonado will fight Art Hovhannisyan in a 10-round bout.

Maldonado has won his last two bouts since a stoppage loss to Amir Imam, while Hovhannisyan, an Armenian who resides in Glendale, California, is 2-2 in his last four bouts.

In another support bout, junior featherweight Roy Tapia squares off against Jose Bustos in a six-round bout.
