Once one of the most talked about amateurs from the New York area, Eddie Gomez is ready to resume his pro career.

Gomez (18-1, 11 knockouts) has re-signed with Golden Boy Promotions after a 10-month layoff, the company announced on Friday night.

The junior middleweight last fought in April of last year, winning when his opponent, Jonathan Batista refused to come out for the sixth round.

Now, the 23-year-old Gomez, who helped Adrien Broner prepare for Shawn Porter last June, as a sparring partner, is ready to take the next step in his career.

“2016 is going to be a big year for all of us and I am glad that Golden Boy Promotions will continue to be on my side,” Gomez said in a press release. “I am looking forward to taking on any challenges to gain a championship title and I know I can trust the team at Golden Boy to guide me in the right direction. They have my loyalty.”

Gomez signed with Golden Boy as an 18-year-old high school senior, upsetting national amateur officials who were eyeing him for the 2012 US Olympic team. He had just won the 2010 New York Golden Gloves, out-pointing current undefeated junior welterweight Cletus Seldin in the finals. Before then, he ruled the Junior Olympic ranks, along with Pedro Sosa, winning a pair of national JO titles.

No date has been announced for Gomez’s next fight.

“Eddie Gomez is one of the top fighters to emerge from New York in several years and we’ve already seen what he can do in the ring against tough competition,” Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya said in the release. “We’re excited to have him on our team and, in 2016, we’re going to keep him busy and get him into the world title picture.”

Gomez’s lone loss came against Francisco Santana in June of 2014, in a 10-round decision.
