Flyweight contender Brian Viloria is patiently waiting for a world title opportunity to come his way. In the meantime, he will take a stay-busy fight.
Viloria will fight Danny Flores on July 25, Top Rank Promotions matchmaker Brad Goodman informed RingTV on Tuesday afternoon.
The 10-round bout will top a Top Rank card, which was originally scheduled to take place at the Civic Auditorium in Glendale, Calif. will now take place at the Florentine Gardens in nearby Hollywood.
The Viloria-Flores bout will be televised on UniMas, beginning at 11 p.m. ET/ PT.
In his last bout on Dec. 6, Viloria (35-4, 21 knockouts) knocked out Armando Vazquez in four rounds. During the bout, Viloria suffered a cut over his left eye from an accidental clash of heads.
The win was Viloria’s third in row since losing a 12-round, split decision to Juan Francisco Estrada in April of 2013. Interestingly enough, there is talk of Viloria fighting Estrada sometime in September.
Viloria, who represented the United States at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, is Estrada’s mandatory challenger for the WBO flyweight title.
Flores (14-7-1, 8 KOs) hails from Mexico City and is winless in his last six bouts. In his last bout on May 15, Flores was knocked out in the eighth and final round by unbeaten Ivan Morales.
In the “Solo Boxeo Tecate” co-feature, Guy Robb will fight Edwin Solis in an eight-round featherweight bout.
Robb has won his last eight bouts in a row since his stoppage loss to Joel Diaz Jr. in Jan. of 2012. In his last bout on Jan. 24, Robb stopped Jose Silveria in the seventh round.
Solis lost an eight round unanimous decision to Toka Kahn Clary on March 14.
