Unbeaten Puerto Rican junior welterweight prospect John Karl Sosa takes on battle-tested Mexican puncher Gilberto Gonzalez on July 2 in the main event of an “LA Fight Club” show at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles.

Gonzalez (25-3, 20 KOs), a tall and rangy 27-year-old native of Mexico City, has stopped his last six opponents, including a brutal fifth-round KO then-unbeaten (15-0) prospect Jeffrey Fontanez last August. Sosa (13-0, 6 KOs) is a talented 22 year old who, like Fontanez, hails from Caguas, Puerto Rico. The scheduled 10-round main event will be televised live on Fox Deportes.

In the co-main event, undefeated featherweight prospect, Diego De La Hoya (10-0, 6 KOs), of Mexicali, Mexico returns to the Belasco Theater in a scheduled eight-round fight against Jose Estrella (14-6-1, 10 KOs), of Tijuana, Mexico.

Opening up the telecast, Los Angeles-based Colombian Oscar Negrete (10-0, 3 KOs) will face always tough and game Ramiro Robles (12-3-1, 6 KOs), of Guanajuato, Mexico, in an eight-round bout.

In the non-televised undercard, undefeated Los Angeles native, Emilio Sanchez (8-0, 6 KOs) will make his third appearance at LA Fight Club in a six-round junior featherweight fight. Also returning to the series, Cesar Qui├▒onez (2-0, 1 KOs) of Las Vegas, Nevada will fight in a for a four-round junior welterweight bout. Opponents will be announced shortly.

“We’re kicking off summer and Fourth of July weekend with a fantastic night of boxing at the Belasco Theater on July 2,” Oscar De La Hoya, Founder and President of Golden Boy Promotions, stated in Tuesday’s announcement press release. “With sold-out crowds nearly every month, LA Fight Club continues to be a smashing success, and I promise we will continue to bring Los Angeles all-out action-packed fights in the ring each month. Gonzalez vs. Sosa will be no exception.”
