BBBofC releases list of mandatory title challengers

On Thursday the British Boxing Board of Control announced the findings of its monthly meeting with regard to the various champions, mandatories and eliminators in each active weight class:
Heavyweight – Tyson Fury (Champion)
Dillian White vs. Gary Cornish were scheduled to meet in a title eliminator. However, Cornish withdrew and the situation is ongoing.
Cruiserweight – Ovill McKenzie (Champion) : Ovill McKenzie vs. Matthew Askin
A new date and venue is awaited for the contest to be promoted by Frank Warren.
Light heavyweight – Bob Ajisafe (Champion) : Bob Ajisafe vs. Travis Dickinson
Following requests from both parties to postpone the opening of purse bids for one month, the purse bid is scheduled for April 8; the bout is to take place by the end of July.
Super middleweight – Paul Smith (Champion) : Paul Smith vs. Rocky Fielding
Following requests from both parties to postpone the opening of purse bids for one month, the purse bid is scheduled for April 8; the bout is to take place by the end of July.
No further postponement of purse bids will be accepted and Paul Smith is obligated to defend the Championship by the end of July 2015. Failure to do so will result in the Stewards considering the status of the British Championship.
Middleweight – Vacant : Billy Joe Saunders vacated the title. It was decided that John Ryder will face Nick Blackwell. The purse bid is scheduled for April 8; the bout is to take place by the end of July.
Junior middleweight – Liam Smith (Champion) : Liam Smith vs. Liam Williams
The purse bid is scheduled for April 8; the bout is to take place by the end of July.
No further postponement of purse bids will be accepted and Liam Smith is obligated to defend the Championship by the end of July 2015. Failure to do so will result in the Stewards considering the status of the British Championship.
Welterweight – Frankie Gavin (Champion)
Glenn Foot vs. Ahmet Patterson will meet in a title eliminator. Due to the illness of Patterson a new date and venue are pending from Frank Warren, who won the initial bid.
Larry Ekundayo vs. Dale Evans will meet in another title eliminator on a Steve Goodwin-promoted event in London on March 14.
Junior welterweight – Willie Limond (Champion) : Willie Limond vs. Chris Jenkins
Eddie Hearn will promote the event in Leeds on April 11.
Lightweight – Vacant : Terry Flanagan vacated the title. It was decided that Scott Cardle will face Craig Evans. The purse bid is scheduled for April 8; the bout is to take place by the end of July.
Junior lightweight – Liam Walsh (Champion) : Liam Walsh vs. Troy James.
The purse bid is scheduled for April 8; the bout is to take place by the end of July.
Martin J. Ward vs. Maxi Hughes will meet on April 11 in an eliminator. Eddie Hearn will promote the event in Leeds.
Featherweight – Vacant : Ryan Walsh vs. Samir Mouneime will contest the vacant title. Frank Warren won the purse bid and the bout will take place at a date and venue to be decided.
Kris Hughes vs. James Tennyson will meet on March 28 in an eliminator. Mark Dunlop will promote the event in Belfast. As Celtic champion Hughes is entitled to a 60-40 split of the purse.
Junior featherweight – James Dickens (Champion) : Dickens won the vacant title on March 6.
Martin Ward and Lewis Petitt were scheduled to meet in a title eliminator. However, Petitt withdrew and the situation is ongoing.
Bantamweight – Lee Haskins (Champion) : Haskins won the European title on Feb. 28 and this division will be discussed at next month‘s meeting.
Flyweight – Vacant : Iain Butcher vs. Luke Wilton will contest the vacant title.
Frank Warren won the purse bid and the bout will take place at a date and venue to be decided.
