After a successful 2014 campaign, one in which boxing fans became more familiar with him, Julian Ramirez hopes to keep the momentum going in 2015.
Ramirez will fight Raul Hidalgo on April 2 at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, manager Joel De La Hoya told RingTV.com on Sunday night.
The 10-round bout will headline an “LA Fight Club” card and be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports Deportes. Golden Boy Promotions will promote the event.
Ramirez was originally scheduled to fight on Feb. 28 on a Golden Boy/Cancun Boxing card in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. De La Hoya told Boxingscene.com that Ramirez fell ill in mid-February and had to withdraw from the card.
The southpaw Ramirez (13-0, 8 knockouts) kicked of 2014 with an impressive win over Derrick Wilson on Jan. 24. He has since scored three dominant wins, his most recent taking place on Nov. 13, stopping Pedro Melo after the fourth round.
Ramirez, 21, is one of Golden Boy’s brightest prospects. His aggressive style has slowly won him fans over the last year, especially since three of his four bouts in 2014 were televised.
In his last bout on Dec. 20, Hidalgo (23-12, 17 KOs) knocked out Jorge Luis Babuca in the third round.
Prior to the Babuca bout, Hidalgo faced Joseph Diaz Jr. on Sept. 29. The 2012 Olympian overwhelmed Hidalgo as the bout progressed, eventually stopping him in the seventh round.
