Joseph Diaz, Ivan Morales on ‘Christmas in the Ring’ card

Junior featherweight Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jr. and Mexican bantamweight Ivan “Nino Maravilla” Morales will put their unbeaten records on the line during a Dec. 8 boxing event at the Cowboys Dance Hall in San Antonio, Tex., Golden Boy Promotions announced on Monday.

Junior welterweight Jose “Loco” Hernandez will also be part of the show promoted by Golden Boy and Leija Battah. Entitled “Christmas in the Ring,” the event will grant fans free admission with the donation of a toy toward benefiting The Childrens Shelter of San Antonio and The St. P.J. Childrens Home for abused and neglected kids.

A 22-year-old southpaw who was a 2012 U.S. Olympian, Diaz (13-0, 9 knockouts) is coming off a fourth-round stoppage of Roberto Castaneda on Nov. 13 and will face Jose Angel Beranza (36-31-2, 28 KOs).

Having lost his last five consecutive fights, Beranza, 38, is was last in the ring for a unanimous decision loss to Jesus M. Rojas in August.



Coming off a sixth-round technical knockout of Cesar Canchila in August, the 23-year-old Morales (26-0, 15 KOs) will face Timur Shailezov (17-8-1, 4 KOs), who was last in action losing a unanimous decision to Victor Ruiz in July.

In the co-main event, Hernandez (14-8-1, 6 KOs) will try to end a two-fight draught against Justo Vallecillo (6-17, 3 KOs).

In other bouts, junior featherweights Javier Rodriguez and Joseph Rodriguez will face opponents to be determined in separate bouts, and junior welterweight Jairo Castaneda will fight Albert Espinoza.
