ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — RingTV.com has a live round-by-round update of tonight’s HBO-televised light heavyweight title unification fight during which WBO titleholder Sergey Kovalev dropped Bernard Hopkins once in the first round of a unanimous decision that earned Hopkins’ IBF and WBA belts at Boardwalk Hall.

Hopkins (55-7-2, 32 knockouts) turns 50 in January.

In March 2013, Hopkins, then 48, dethroned previously unbeaten Tavoris Cloud by unanimous decision to extend his own record as the oldest man to win a significant crown. Hopkins first set the record at the age of 46 by outpointing Jean Pascal for the WBC’s title in May 2011.

Hopkins became the oldest man to unify titles in April, flooring Beibut Shumenov in the 11th round of a unanimous decision to add the WBA title to his IBF belt.

Hopkins was trying to surpass the third record against Kovalev (26-0-1, 23 KOs), a 31-year-old who had gone 13-0-1 winner with 13 knockouts in his past 14 fights.

HBO’s broadcast begins at 10:45 p.m ET/PT
