WBA middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin weighed 159.6 pounds to 159.2 for challenger Curtis Stevens in advance of Saturday’s HBO-televised clash at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Also on the card, hard-hitting heavyweights Magomed Abdusalamov and Mike Perez were at 231.6 and 235.8, and cruiserweight Ola Afolabi tipped the scales at 194 pounds compared to 197.8 for rival Lukasz Janik.

The nearly 5-foot-11 Golovkin (27-0, 24 knockouts) appeared to tower over the 5-7 Stevens (25-3, 18 KOs) during the post-weigh-in staredown, which was rather calm in comparison to all of the talking done by both camps.

With his fighter having earned his 14th straight stoppage win against Matthew Macklin in June, Golovkin’s trainer, Abel Sanchez, insists that Stevens represents a “short night for Gennady,” adding, “I also expect that as soon as Curtis gets hit with the first jab, he’ll be more scared than Macklin was.”

Having earned a stoppage of Saul Roman in August that was his third first-round knockout during a run of four straight wins, Stevens has vowed to destroy Golovkin.

Welterweights Dusty Hernandez-Harrison and Josh “Pitbull” Torres were at 141.4 and 145.6, respectively.
