LAS VEGAS — Russian Egor Mekhontsev, who captured the light heavyweight gold medal at the 2012 Olympics in London, is expected to sign with Top Rank this week in anticipation of a Dec. 7 debut on the undercard of a main event between RING, WBA and WBO junior featherweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux and former bantamweight beltholder Joseph Agbeko at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum informed RingTV.com on Tuesday.

“He’s a terrific fighter. He’s a monster. He’s a puncher,” said Arum, who is in Las Vegas to promote Saturday night’s Tim BradleyJuan Manuel Marquez fight. “He really beat the s–t out of everybody in the Olympics.”

Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 knockouts) is coming off an HBO-televised unanimous decision over Nonito Donaire in April, and Agbeko (29-4, 22 KOs) is coming off a unanimous decision over Luis Melendez in March that helped him to rebound from consecutive losses as a bantamweight to Abner Mares.

Trained by his father, Leonid Mekhontsev, Egor will also appear on a January show

“He’ll fight on in Atlantic City on the Rigondeaux card, and hopefully, HBO will show a video clip of him,” said Arum. “Then, he’ll fight in Madison Square Garden on Jan. 25.”
