HBO will show a tripleheader on Sept. 28 featuring former and current titleholders in three marquee divisions fighting in three different countries.

The broadcast will begin with former heavyweight titleholder David Haye in an all-English clash with unbeaten 6-foot-9 contender Tyson Fury in Manchester, England, before switching to a defense by RING and WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson against Tavoris Cloud in Montreal. The final matchup will see former WBC middleweight titleholder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. take on Brian Vera in a super middleweight bout in Carson, Calif.

“When [Haye-Fury] goes live, it will be in the afternoon [U.S. time,] so [Haye-Fury] will be shown on delay,” said Peter Nelson, HBO sports’ director of programming. “The Stevenson-Cloud fight from Canada will be shown live, so depending how long Haye and Fury are warring it out, that will determine exactly when that main event goes on in Montreal.”

Haye (26-2, 24 knockouts) was last in the ring for a fifth-round knockout of Dereck Chisora in July, and Fury (21-0, 15 KOs) rose from a second-round knockdown to stop Steve Cunningham in the seventh round in April.

Stevenson (21-1, 17 KOs) is coming off last month’s 76-second stoppage of former champion Chad Dawson, while Cloud (24-2, 19 KOs) was derailed as IBF beltholder by Bernard Hopkins in March.

Chavez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) is coming off a unanimous-decision loss to RING champion Sergio Martinez last Sept. 15 in Las Vegas, after which he tested positive for marijuana.

In June, the Nevada State Athletic Commission reduced the fine it had initially levied against Chavez from $900,000 to $100,000, this, after the fighter already had completed the term of his nine-month suspension.

Vera (23-6, 14 KOs) has won four straight fights, including the past two by knockout.

“From our perspective, you have three tremendous fights, regardless. I think that fight fans think of great fights as being great fights, and I don’t think that they discriminate in that respect,” said Nelson.

“But if we can take advantage of the cross-pollination of the fans of the son of a legend [Chavez,] and the fans of a first-round knockout by Adonis Stevenson from his last performance, and the fans of the heavyweight division wanting to see a vibrant fight in that division, I think that’s only an additional advantage for us.”
