A junior middleweight bout between unbeaten Jermell Charlo, of Houston, and Demetrius Hopkins, of Philadelphia, has been added to the undercard of a June 8 main event featuring welterweights Marcos Maidana and Josesito Lopez at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., according to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer.

The nephew of Bernard Hopkins, Demetrius Hopkins (33-2-1, 13 knockouts), who is 32, will be after his third straight stoppage win, and Charlo (20-0, 10 KOs), who is 22, is coming off an eighth-round knockout over Harry Joe Yorgey in January.

Maidana (33-3, 30 KOs) and Lopez (30-5, 18 KOs) will meet on a card that also boasts hard-hitting junior middleweight Alfredo Angulo (22-2, 18 KOs) against savvy southpaw Erislandy Lara (17-1-2, 11 KOs).

Maidana has scored two consecutive knockout victories to bounce back from a unanimous decision loss to current IBF 147-pound beltholder Devon Alexander.

Lopez is coming off a fifth-round knockout loss to RING and WBC junior middleweight titleholder Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in September that followed his own ninth-round stoppage victory over Victor Ortiz in June.

Lara is coming off a technical draw with Vanes Martirosyan last November. Angulo has won two straight since being knocked out in the sixth round by James Kirkland in November of 2011.
