Former three-division beltwinner Shane Mosley, who announced his retirement at the age of 40 last June following his unanimous decision to unbeaten WBC junior middleweight beltholder Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in May, will be reunited with his father and former trainer, Jack Mosley, during the 41-year-old’s likely return to the ring against WBA welterweight titleholder Paulie Malignaggi at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on April 27.

Named Fighter and Trainer of The Year in 1998, Mosley (46-8-1, 39 KOs) and his father last worked together, said the son, for the younger Mosley’s 12th-round stoppage of ex-beltholder Ricardo Mayorga in September of 2008.

Jack Mosley is replacing Naazim Richardson, who is also known for handling former RING lightheavyweight and middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins.

Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer first informed RingTV.com of the possibilityf of Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KOs) defending against Mosley, who would be back in the 147-pound division for the first time since falling the same way to Manny Pacquiao in May of 2011.

“There are just agreements that have to get executed on both sides,” said Mosley’s lawyer, Josh Dubin, to RingTV.com on Sunday. “But everyone has agreed to all of the terms of the fight. I expect that our bout agreement will get done this week.”

Malignaggi’s attorney, Steve Bash, said the deal is close but not finalized.

“We have agreed to the bout in principal, but there are some details that need to be worked out in the bout agreement that we are waiting to hear from Golden Boy on,” said Bash.

“Paulie is looking forward to fighting Shane on April 27 in Brooklyn, but right now, we have not signed the bout agreement yet due to some details that need to be worked out with the bout agreement.”

Among Mosley’s career-highs are a pair of victories over Oscar De La Hoya, two consecutive knockouts over Fernando Vargas, and stoppage wins over Mayorga and Antonio Margarito, the last of which was Mosley’s first bout without Jack Mosley in his corner in January of 2009.

Mosley also has triumphed over world titleholders Jesse James Leija, John John Molina, Phillip Holiday and Luis Collazo, knocking out out Leija and Molina.

Mosley’s losses included two-each to Winky Wright and the late Vernon Forrest, and to Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Miguel Cotto. The second win over De La Hoya was at junior middleweight, as were the losses to to Wright and the draw with former titleholder, Sergio Mora.

In this brief Q&A below, Mosley discussed his chance of ending an 0-3-1 run by defeating Malignaggi, a 32-year-old Brooklyn native.

RingTV.com: What does this fight mean to you?

Shane Mosley: This fight means a lot to me. But it means not only a lot to me, but also, to my father. My father is going to be working with me again. We’re going to do it the right way.

I’m looking at this, like winning this and doing three, four or five more fights. I want to make a couple of more title defenses. I’m feeling great, and I’m feeling good.

RingTV.com: Do you have any concern for your legacy?

SM: I just think that I want to continue to build the legacy, with me, my father and my camp by getting back on top at this age. Being able to win the world title again, and to shock the world again?

It’s going to mean a lot. Like I said, it will mean a lot to me, but it’s also going to mean a lot to my father to be able to get back on top like that.

RingTV.com: When was the last time that your father was in your corner?

SM: It was Mayorga, maybe?

RingTV.com: Could this fight be a problem stylistically for you?

SM: Obviously, I think that I’m going to have to force the action because he’s the champion. So I’m going to have to be very fast and very strong.

RingTV.com: Does this run the risk of being an ugly fight?

SM: I don’t think that it’s going to be an ugly fight. I’m going to try not to allow it to become an ugly fight. I’m going to try to win. I want to win, and I want win big.

So it’s going to be a great fight for me. I’m going to display a lot of energy and bring a lot of action. I’m coming in there to take his belt.
