Matthysse considered for Alexander-Brook card

Hard-hitting Argentine junior welterweight Lucas Matthysse is being targeted for a Jan. 19 appearance against an opponent to be determined on the undercard of a main event featuring newly-crowned IBF welterweight titleholder Devon Alexander against England’s unbeaten Kell Brook somewhere in the United States, according to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer.
Matthysse (32-2, 30 KOs) has scored four straight knockouts since sandwiching disputed decision losses to southpaws Zab Judah and Alexander in June of 2010 and June of 2011, respectively, around an eighth-round stoppage of left-hander DeMarcus Corley in January of last year.
Matthysse’s past two victories have been by fifth- and 10th-round knockout over former WBC 130-pound and lightweight beltholder Humberto Soto and previously unbeaten Nigerian southpaw Ajose Olusegun (30-0, 14 KOs) in June and September, respectively.
Matthysse has been also reportedly considering a stay-busy fight for Dec. 15 in his native Argentina, according to BoxingScene.com.
A former IBF and WBC 140-pound beltholder, Alexander (24-1, 13 knockouts), who is 25, is coming off last month’s unanimous decision that dethroned hard-punching Randall Bailey, while Brook (29-0, 19 KOs), who is 26, is coming off last month’s third-round stoppage of Hector Saldivia.
