McEwan outpoints Vera on FNF

Middleweight prospect Craig McEwan (15-0, 9 knockouts) outboxed Brian Vera (16-3, 10 KOs) in the main event of an ESPN2-televised card from Ft. Worth, Texas on Friday.
McEwan, who outworked and outmaneuvered Vera throughout the 10 rounder, won by unanimous scores of 97-93.
Vera, the bigger and stronger Austin native, tried to physically impose himself on McEwan early in the bout, however the L.A.-based Scotsman used lateral movement and accurate combinations to neutralize the Texan's aggression over the second half of the bout.
In the co-featured bout of the “Friday Night Fights” broadcast lightweight prospect Adrian Broner (9-0, 6 KOs) was lucky to earn an eight-round majority decision over previously unbeaten late-sub Fernando Quintero (7-1-1).
Broner, a 19-year-old former amateur star from Cinncinnati, Ohio, won by scores of 78-74, 77-75 and 76-76, but he was troubled throughout the bout by Quintero's use of feints and well-timed right-hand counters.
Broner was aggressive and usually got off first, but the relaxed ring generalship and busy infighting from the more mature Quintero, a 25-year-old boxer from Oxnard, Calif., appeared more effective.
