James Kirkland, already on probation for armed robbery, has been arrested on a federal gun-possession charge.

The junior middleweight contender from Austin, Texas, was taken into custody Sunday by U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents, who allegedly found a loaded pistol in his car, according to federal court documents cited by the Austin American-Statesman.

He was handed over to federal agents on Tuesday.

Kirkland was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, the newspaper reported. He was on probation for a 2003 armed robbery case.

The court documents also indicate that Kirkland’s probation officer was in the process of revoking his probation over another incident, in which the fighter allegedly threw another pistol underneath a vehicle.

Kirkland, THE RING’s No. 9-rated 154-pounder, is scheduled to fight Michael Walker on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton fight on May 2 in Las Vegas.
