Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s promotional company is in the final stages of receiving a license from the New York State Athletic Commission and has hired former Golden Boy Promotions Chief Operating Officer, Bruce Binkow, as a consultant, according to a report from MLive Media Group.

Binkow's exit followed the resignation of Richard Schaefer, the former Golden Boy Promotions CEO.

Barclays Center in Brooklyn has become a popular venue for boxing, and could host the fight, with Madison Square Garden having an Eagles concert on Sept. 13, according to MLive.

Although Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark didn't land Mayweather's majority decision over Marcos Maidana in May despite what he called the "most unprecedented offer that's ever been made outside of Las Vegas," Yormark said the "offer is still there for him to call Barclays Center home" during an earlier interview with RingTV.com.

If Mayweather fights in Nevada, he probably would have to use a front promoter, according to MLive. Golden Boy has served that role in the past.

Over the weekend, Mayweather hinted at a Sept. 13 rematch with Maidana, who later acknowledged that talks had ensued regarding a return bout.

SERGEY KOVALEV TO BE FEATURED ON HBO'S '2 DAYS'

Light heavyweight titleholder Sergey Kovalev will be featured on HBO’s 2 Days on July 26 in advance of the Aug. 2 defense of his WBO belt against unbeaten Blake Caparello at Revel Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, the network announced on Tuesday.

The show will air at 11:45 p.m. ET/PT.

THE RING’s No. 3-rated 175-pounder, Kovalev (24-0-1, 22 knockouts) will make the third defense of the WBO title won from Nathan Cleverly with a brutal four-round TKO in Cleverly's hometown of Cardiff, Wales on Aug. 17, 2013. It will be the 31-year-old Russian's fourth fight on HBO and his second in Atlantic City.

Caparello (19-0-1, 6 KOs), a 27-year-old southpaw from Australia, will be the third undefeated opponent Kovalev has faced since last August.

Caparello is not a puncher, but he has more experience in later rounds than Kovalev, having gone the distance in 14 out of 20 fights and having fought past the Round 8 nine times in his career.

Kovalev-Caparello is part of a split-site HBO broadcast that also includes the return of Brandon Rios against Diego Chaves from the Cosmopolitan resort in Las Vegas.

MICHAEL FARENAS 130, MARK DAVIS 130

In advance of Wednesday's card at MGM Grand Theater in Fox Tower at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn.,  junior lightweights Mark Davis (18-0, 5 KOs) and Michael Farenas (38-4-4, 30 KOs) each weighed 130 pounds.

Farenas will be after his fifth straight stoppage win since falling by unanimous decision to Yuriorkis Gamboa in December 2012, and was last in action for a second-round knockout of Hector Velazquez in March.

Davis is coming off a unanimous decision over Carlos Vinan in September and will face Farenas in an IBF eliminator for the right to be named mandatory challenger to the winner of a July 10 rematch between titleholder Argenis Mendez and Rances Barthelemy.
