A 15-minute HBO special entitled Road to Marquez-Alvarado will air on April 19 at 12:45 a.m., ET/PT in advance of the Juan Manuel Marquez-Mike Alvarado bout on May 17 at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif. The winner of this bout will become the WBO's mandatory welterweight title challenger to whomever prevails in Tim Bradley-Manny Pacquiao II on April 12.

The special will also be available on the HBO On Demand service, HBO GO and at www.hbo.com/boxing as well as various other new media platforms that distribute the series.

Marquez and Alvarado will fight at the Fourm, now owned by Madison Square Garden, recently undergoing a $40 million facelift.

A four-division titlewinner who who turns 41 in August, Marquez (55-7-1, 40 knockouts) went 12-0 with nine knockouts at the Great Western Forum. The run started with a first-round stoppage of Martin Ochoa in January 1995 that made Marquez 9-1 with seven knockouts following his American debut.

Losing his professional debut by disqualification, Marquez was 29-1 with 22 knockouts after his final bout at the Great Western Forum – a second-round knockout of Wilfredo Vargas.

Marquez lost his 31st fight by unanimous decision to Freddy Norwood at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, representing a failed bid to win the WBA 126-pound belt in September 1999.

Marquez was last in the ring for a split decision loss to Bradley last October, which followed his sixth-round stoppage of Pacquiao in December 2012.

Marquez's ultimate goal is a showdown with Bradley, a split decision winner over Pacquiao in June 2012, or Pacquiao, against whom Marquez is 1-2-1. A win over either would make Marquez the first Mexican fighter to earn a fifth belt in as many weight divisions.

A 33-year-old from Denver, Colo. Alvarado (34-2, 23 KOs) is 1-2 over the course of his past three fights, all of which were contested at junior welterweight.

Alvarado was stopped in the seventh round by Brandon Rios in October 2012, won their rematch for the WBO's vacant 140-pound belt by unanimous decision in March of last year, then lost the title by 10th-round knockout to Ruslan Provodnikov last October.
