Every available seat the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, site of the Sept. 14 Showtime Pay Per View-televised clash between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, has been sold less than 24 hours after tickets went on sale for the megabout billed as “The One.”

Mayweather (44-0, 26 knockouts), THE RING’s No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter, and THE RING 154-pound champion Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KOs), have only completed four stops over three days of an 11-city promotional tour for the event, whose organizers — Mayweather Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions, Canelo Promotions and MGM Resorts International — have announced that MGM Resorts properties, ARIA, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Monte Carlo and New York-New York, will host live closed-circuit showing of the pay-per-view event in response to the sellout.

“The demand for tickets, even before they went on sale, was unprecedented,” Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer. “This is the fight the world wanted, we gave it to the fans, and they responded. September 14 will be the biggest night boxing has seen in years. We urge fans to get their closed-circuit tickets before they sell out as well.”

Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya, whom Mayweather dethroned for the WBC’s junior middleweight belt in May of 2007, told RingTV.com during a January interview that a match up between Mayweather and Alvarez could surpass the record numbers drawn by his split-decision loss to Mayweather, which holds the all-time pay-per-view record with more than 2.5 million buys.

Mayweather-Alvarez already is projected to generate at least $18,647,000 in tickets sales, eclipsing the mark of $18,419,200 by Mayweather-De La Hoya and with the chance of surpassing $19 million, Schaefer told ESPN.com.

“We will definitely break the live gate for the De La Hoya fight,” said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, during an interview with Fighthype.com. “We will definitely have a record-breaking gross number at the live gate.”

Projected to be the world’s highest paid athlete for the past two years, Mayweather is coming off a one-sided unanimous decision victory over Robert Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KOs) in May.

“This sell out doesn’t surprise me because this is what happens when the best fights the best,” said Mayweather. “I want to thank all the fans for their support. They’re going to see a hell of a show on Sept. 14, whether it’s at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, on closed circuit in Las Vegas or on Showtime Pay Per View.”

During his most recent fight in April, Alvarez scored the most impressive victory of his career to date with a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten southpaw Austin Trout.

“Thank you to everyone who bought tickets to this event,” said Alvarez, who turns 23 next month. “I know I will have plenty of support in the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Sept. 14. This is the biggest night of my career, I will be at my best for it and I will win.”

For his win over Guerrero, Mayweather pocketed a purse of $32 million to the $3 million earned for Guerrero, tying the record mark he earned with a unanimous decision victory over Miguel Cotto on May 5 of 2012. According to Forbes’ Magazine, Mayweather netted a total of $45 million against Cotto.

Mayweather could surpass a guaranteed purse of more than $40 million against Alvarez.

“We’re truly excited that the fans have spoken,” said Ellerbe. “This is a tremendous fight and the quick sellout is another indication that this is the fight fans want to see. Both fighters thank the fans for their tremendous support.”

The tour hit Mayweather’s native Grand Rapids, Mich., on Wednesday, followed by Chicago as well.

The Grand Rapids appearance featured a marching band, cotton candy, snow cones and bouncy houses to play in, as well as the attendance of 300 children who were bussed in from the Grand Rapids Public School System summer program. Mayweather is an alumni of the Grand Rapids school system.

“To the city of Grand Rapids, you believed in me when no one else would,” Mayweather said to some 2,000 fans at Houseman Field. “I want to thank all my fans and Canelo’s fans, but one thing we know, fans can’t fight for you.”
