Ken Buchanan is widely considered the greatest boxer Scotland has ever produced and one of the very best from Britain.

Buchanan was born and raised in Edinburgh, where his family lived a modest life in government housing. As a youngster, he was never far from trouble. A chance trip to the cinema proved to be a pivotal moment in his life, however.

“My dad took me to see Joe Louis in a film and I said to him when we came out of the cinema, ‘Dad, I want to be a boxer,’” Buchanan told THE RING. “So he took me to the Sparta Boxing Club and at 8 years old, that was my introduction to boxing.
