Carlos Cuadras retained his WBC junior bantamweight title with a sixth-round technical knockout of late replacement Marvin Mabait on Thursday at the Washington Hilton in Washington D.C.

Cuadras (31-0-1, 25 knockouts) dropped Mabait (19-3-2, 13 KOs) once in the fifth round and twice in the sixth before referee Eddie Claudio waved the fight off at the 36-second mark. Mabait was a substitute for fellow Filipino Sonny Boy Jaro, who reportedly had visa issues that prohibited him from entering the United States.

The Mexico City native Cuadras, 26, is rated No. 2 by THE RING at 115 pounds and has made two defenses of his title. Mabait has now lost his second straight fight by knockout.

In the event’s co-featured bout, Ava Knight (13-2-3, 5 KOs) made her first appearance in over a year since losing to Ibeth Zamora Silva with a ten-round unanimous decision win over Guadalupe Martinez (7-8, 3 KOs). All three scorecards read 100-90 for Knight.
