Tevin Farmer to return Dec. 2 in South Philly

After getting stopped in his pro debut and losing four of his first 12 fights, Tevin Farmer was rapidly driving down a road to nowhere.

These days, Farmer is a compelling figure in the junior lightweight division, owner of a 16-fight winning streak and author of one of the more remarkable turnarounds in the sport. In July of this year, Farmer (23-4-1, 5 knockouts) fought circles around Ivan Redkach, displaying the speed and slick ingenuity that has made his renaissance so enjoyable to watch.

He will continue his journey from tomato can to title contender when he faces Dardan Zenunaj (12-2, 9 KOs) on Dec. 2 at the 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia in a stay-busy fight, it was announced on Monday. “This is another fight to put me closer to a world title shot,” said North Philly’s Farmer in a prepared statement. “A win should set me up for a title opportunity in early 2017. After December 2, I’m looking to face even bigger names. I don’t care who they put in front of me, but first I have to get past my opponent.”

Promoter Lou DiBella has been banging the drums on Farmer’s talents and his need for a meaningful fight since he signed him in 2014. DiBella, who fancies himself a patron saint of the underdog, seems to take special delight in talking up Farmer and his improbable story. “Tevin Farmer has rebuilt himself into a legit world title contender and is on the verge of a major fight in 2017,” said DiBella, who is co-promoting the fight with J. Russell Peltz. “However, on December 2, he will have his hands full against the aggressive brawler Dardan Zenunaj in a bout that promises to deliver fireworks.”
