Garcia-Zlaticanin on Frampton-Santa Cruz card
Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz could be in good company on Jan. 28.
Mikey Garcia is set to challenge Dejan Zlaticanin for his WBC lightweight title in a bout likely to take place as the co-feature to Frampton-Santa Cruz on Jan. 28 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Lou DiBella, who promotes Zlaticanin told RingTV.com on Thursday.
While the date and venue are not 100% locked in for Garcia-Zlaticanin, the fight has been finalized, according to DiBella, and is expected to serve as the co-feature to Frampton-Santa Cruz on a Showtime telecast barring a last-second change.
Three years after Garcia (35-0, 29 knockouts) held a title, he will get a chance to reclaim a belt and his status as one of the sport’s top talents following a two-and-a-half-year absence as he worked out a promotional rift with Top Rank. For the Montenegrin Zlaticanin (22-0, 15 KOs), it’s an opportunity to get the big fight he’s been craving for since he lost the chance to face WBA titleholder Jorge Linares, who is recuperating from an injury after his win against Anthony Crolla last month.
