Tevin Farmer outpoints Orlando Rizo over eight

Tevin Farmer continued his winning ways late Friday night, winning an eight-round unanimous decision over Orlando Rizo at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Farmer, who has now won 16 bouts in a row, improves to 23-4-5, five knockouts. Rizo, who resides in Managua, Nicaragua, falls to 19-8, 11 KOs.
It was a homecoming for Farmer as he had not fought in his hometown for three years. He was coming off an impressive 10 round decision over Ivan Redkach on July 30.
In the battle of southpaws, Farmer was the busier fighter who landed the more telling blows. Farmer attacked the body, but a few of his punches strayed below Rizo’s belt-line, prompting the referee to deduct a point in round four and eight.
All three judges scored the bout in favor of Farmer, 78-72, 78-72, and 77-73.
Rizo has now dropped three of his last four bouts.
Promoter Russell Peltz announced Sunday the 26-year-old Farmer, who is ranked number five by the WBC, will return to action on Dec. 2 at the 2300 Arena. Farmer is promoted by Lou DiBella.
In the main event, junior middleweights Tyrone Brunson (23-6-2, 22 KOs) and Ismael Garcia (10-0-1, 4 KOs) fought to an eight round split decision draw.
Each fighter won 78-74 on a judge’s scorecard, while the third and deciding judge scored the bout 76-76.
Unbeaten junior welterweight Mike Reed (20-0, 12 KOs) broke Aaron Herrera (29-6-1, 18 KOs) down before dropping him near the end of the sixth round. Herrera’s corner threw in the towel, prompting a stoppage as the bell to end the round sounded.
Reed, who resides in Waldorf, Maryland, is one of Top Rank’s top unbeaten prospects.
