Peter Fury admits failed drug test for Tyson

Just days after Tyson Fury admitted to abusing cocaine and alcohol, his uncle and trainer acknowledged that Fury tested positive for cocaine before his scheduled rematch with Wladimir Klitschko was called off.

“VADA has given official confirmation that he has failed the drugs test on traces of cocaine in his system,” Peter Fury told Sky Sports News HQ. “It just highlights for me the despair and the depths that he has gone to, to even contemplate such a low-life result as turning to that.”

Fury added that his nephew has been dealing with depression for years and that upsetting Klitschko last November and winning the heavyweight titles “added pressure” and “completely tipped him over the edge.”

Tyson Fury, who holds the WBA and WBO belts, admitted to Rolling Stone on Monday to suffering from depression and to previously using excessive levels of cocaine and alcohol. Fury reportedly tested positive on Sept. 21 and 22 for the drug. His Oct. 29 rematch with Klitschko was cancelled when his own promoter said he was “medically unfit to fight.”

John Fury, Tyson’s father, said he will soon start treatment for his issues and predicted a recovery “with a bit of help and the right kind of respect and help from Joe Public and the powers-that-be in boxing,” adding, “He loves boxing. It’s his life. I don’t see why there can’t be a recovery.”
