George Groves to face Eduard Gutknecht on Nov. 18
British super middleweight George Groves will face former European champion Eduard Gutknecht at the SSE Arena, Wembley, in London on Nov. 18.
Groves, who is rated No. 4 by THE RING at 168 pounds, is coming off an impressive unanimous decision victory over four-time world title challenger Martin Murray in June and seeks another eye-catching performance on U.K. terrestrial network Channel 5.
“I’m extremely happy to announce this fight,” said Groves (24-3, 18 KOs) in a press release issued by Cyclone Promotions. “I have been fortunate in my boxing career to experience almost everything the sport has to offer but to be fighting live on terrestrial TV is something that has always been very high up on my bucket list.
“Working with Shane (McGuigan) and the McGuigan team in the gym has been fantastic and has shown me the difference that working with a winning team can make. I believe that my performances this year, in particular the win over Martin Murray, has shown everyone that I continue to be a serious force on the super middleweight scene.”
Gutknecht (30-4-1, 13 KOs) has been a professional for 10 years and the German-based Kazakhstani will be looking to derail Groves’ world title ambitions, “George Groves is a winner and a world class fighter but so am I,” he said. “The fans in London are in for a hell of a fight.”
Doors will open at 5.30pm at the SSE Arena, Wembley on Friday Nov. 18, with boxing starting at 6.30pm. More information on the undercard will be announced shortly.
