Herrera vs. Cano set for Nov. 18 at Fantasy Springs
Welterweights Mauricio Herrera and Pablo Cesar Cano will square off on Nov. 18, Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Robert Diaz confirmed to RingTV over the weekend.
The 10-round bout will take place at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California. Estrella TV will broadcast the fight live, beginning at 10 p.m. ET/ 7 pm PT.
The clash between the former interim titlists comes at an important stage in their careers. Both are coming off a defeat in their previous fights and another loss derails any attempt to fight for another world title belt.
Herrera (22-6, 7 knockouts) lost a one-sided decision to unbeaten Frankie Gomez on May 7 in Las Vegas. The 36-year-old from nearby Riverside understands the importance of his fight against Cano.
“My career could potentially be on the line here,” said Herrera, who has wins over Henry “Hank” Lundy, Mike Dallas Jr. and Johan Perez. “My last fight against Gomez was a wake-up call. I know that I have a lot on the line.”
Cano (29-5-1, 21 KOs) lost a 10-round split decision to Alan Sanchez on May 6. The Mexico City resident has also lost to Erik Morales, Paulie Malignaggi and Shane Mosley.
“I am very excited to get back in the ring,” said Cano. “I am training extremely hard because my opponent is a very formidable opponent and I want to give the fans what they have expected from me, a good fight for their entertainment and my victory to get my career back on track.”
“Mauricio Herrera and Pablo Cesar Cano embody two true Mexican fighting styles in the ring,” said Oscar De La Hoya, chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions.
RingTVLive.com will air the entire fight Golden Boy Promotions card, beginning at 5:30 p.m. PT.
